The AvidProNet™ Review & Approval™ service was Avid®'s first Web-based media review tool. With Review & Approval, video editors could send drafts of work-in-progress to interested clients and decision makers for their comments and sign-off (using a Java-based review tool), and then import their frame-accurate comments back into their Avid editing system. This new workflow saved time and money, allowing users to skip the process of dubbing and sending a video tape via courier, and storing old video tapes.

Review & Approval was a Web-based system that stored media on AvidProNet's site and captured reviewer comments and uploaded them to the AvidProNet site for later access by an editor. The security and privacy of customer information was critical to this service, so the system included a custom, secure, encryption-capable, upload and download engine, secure servers, 128-bit SSL connections, and password-based user logins. The service was also tested with both internal and external security audits and passed with very high marks.

My role on this project:

• Defined the user experience for the product.
• Led technical architecture efforts and wrote technical specifications.
• Led the development effort.
• Managed the worldwide release of Review & Approval as part of AvidPronet.
• Oversaw all aspects of product development including database design, network services, programming development
• Participated in the decision process for choosing ISP, server hardware, software, programming languages, contractors.
• Led the compliance efforts for worldwide release, working closely with Avid Legal.
